“Reconciliation is not an aboriginal problem- it is a Canadian problem. It involves all of us.”
-Justice Murray Sinclair
What is Reconciliation?
Reconciliation is the restoration of a friendship after an estrangement. It is not an offer that is accepted one time, but instead a process of coming together.
Why are we all Treaty People?
Everyone who was a part of the treaty is still now a part.
Both parties are involved.
All Saskatchewan people are treaty people.
Why it matters to all of us:
It continues to affect many groups.
It happened here in Saskatchewan and all over Canada.
It is a major cause of poverty, homelessness, substance abuse and violence in our province & country.
We all share the land.
Above is my representation of my learning on residential schools, treaties, and Aboriginal Peoples. I split my circle into four parts to represent where we were, how far we have come as a nation and as people, but also to show how much further have have to go to get to a great place and understanding. Many people do not even know what reconciliation even means let alone what the purpose of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada is here for.
